The Manchester Proud Chorus is a friendly and diverse group. We welcome anyone aged 18 or over who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or as an ally.

What will I get out of it?

As well as learning new skills and singing fabulous music, the choir is a great way to feel part of a community and meet people. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds, for example our ages span six decades!

We all love a bit of socialising, with regular pub trips after our rehearsals and groups within the choir dedicated to walking, reading and crafting. Socials are also organised, such as a quiz night and wellness day.

When and where do you meet?

Our regular rehearsals are every Monday, 7pm to 9.15pm. The first Monday of the month is dedicated to new members joining the choir, but please let us know if you plan to come along! We don’t meet on public holidays.

You can find us at Hallé at St Michael’s, 36-38 George Leigh Street, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 5DG. This is a 10-15 minute walk from Piccadilly or Victoria stations, with parking available from 6pm in the local area (but not in the residents’ spaces, opposite). It is also accessible by Metrolink and bus. Let us know if you need more information.

Do I need any experience?

No! As a community choir, we don’t audition our members. We recognise when people first join, you are on a learning curve, and we are there to help you along and boost your confidence. You’ll soon find that singing together is a hugely joyful experience.

You don’t need to be able to read music – many of our members don’t. We encourage you to be as comfortable as possible when you sing – sit down if you need to; move to the front if you are having difficulty seeing our musical director, or hearing the part; experiment by moving to a different section to see which suits you best and most importantly of all… enjoy yourself!

How much does it cost?

Our standard membership rate for members is £22 per month, payable by standing order. We have a concessionary membership rate of £10 per month for those who are unable to afford the standard membership rate.

We don’t expect you to pay straight away. When you first join, you will have a grace period of a few weeks during which you can decide whether the choir is for you.

We don’t want money to be a barrier to anyone joining our choir, so please speak to our membership secretary, Mike Lake, for more information about potential financial support.

Sounds good, sign me up!

Great – please contact Mike to confirm you’d like to come along, and we’ll see you on the first Monday of next month!
